In the heart of downtown, across from City Market, you’ll find Growler USA, a casual, two-story bar with a big advantage. Because what they lack in size, they more than make up for with a seriously impressive selection of craft brews on draft. They’ve got a full bar with 100 taps in all, most of them spewing out hyper-local beers from all your area faves. Their large selection also leaves room for smaller, less established local brewers get in on the action and introduce themselves to potential new fans.
Moreover, they’ve got an enthusiastic staff who are down to help you discover the exact beer you want, letting you sample anything and everything until you find your perfect match. It took us three tries before we settled on our fave, but we got the sense our bartender would’ve kept pouring us samples ad infinitum.
Growler USA’s got 10 other locations throughout the US, but of course, this one’s locally owned and operated by a husband and wife team with a passion for craft beer. And beyond their extensive beer list, Growler USA’s got a full food menu of traditional pub fare with something for everyone.
They’ve got a full bar, but beer is your obvious order (which one exactly is entirely up to you). They’ve got 100 drafts available, all which rotate frequently. Once you’ve settled on a brew, you’ll choose between one of four sizes (half-pint, pint, 32 oz., or growler). Then, the only thing left to do is cheers and enjoy!
Growler USA’s got a new, wide-ranging food menu that includes shareable bar bites, burgers, salads, desserts, and more. It’s a step up from basic bar food, all designed to pair perfectly with a pint.
If you’ve got a group to share with, go for the signature Growler Nachos ($13), with homemade chips, or the Appetizer Trio ($14), which lets you sample a few of their most popular bites: Fried Pickles, Zippin’ Brussel Sprouts, and Loaded Spuds.
Better yet, go for our hands-down favorite item on the menu: Funnel Fries ($7)! They’re sweetly fragrant strips of heaven—crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and drizzled with chocolate syrup. Over-the-top and indulgent, these babies are the perfect thing to tide you over until the State Fair returns.
The Crafted Fried Chicken Sandwich ($13) is their bestseller—just be sure to shell out the extra two bucks to get your fries or tots “loaded” (i.e., covered in a delicious topping of your choice).
There are also 10 burger styles including the Hot Chip ($14) with jalapeno coins baked into a parmesan crisp, and the Bromance ($15), which comes with thick slices of bacon, carnitas, beer cheese, and crispy onions. All of their burgers are customizable too—sub a veggie burger or chicken, and add or subtract ingredients however you’d like.
There’s free wifi and plenty of spots to plug in, making it an awesome substitute for days when working from a coffee shop just won't cut it.
They’ve got a $9 lunch menu with a little bit of everything on it and if you order a beer too, they’ll knock two bucks off your meal.
They’ve got plenty of special events and recurring weekly specials:
Monday: Trivia Night at 7pm
Tuesday: Kids eat free with the purchase of an adult entree
Wednesday: ½ glasses of wine
Thursday: Open mic night at 7pm
Friday: Live music at 7 pm
Saturday: Live music at 7 pm, stand-up comedy at 10 pm
You can BYOG (bring your own growler) and they’ll fill it up!
