It's not always easy pleasing your pop and it's definitely not a breeze shopping for him. With Father's Day on the horizon, it's time to start searching for the perfect gift. We partnered with Meghan of the blog I'm Fixin' To to bring you a round-up of the best local gift ideas (and events) to make the big day extra special.
Parker & Otis may be known for its eclectic gifts and killer pimento cheese sandwiches, but don’t forget to browse for your dad while you’re there. My pick here is a pig print Collard Greens tie because of my own father’s affinity for Eastern North Carolina style BBQ. Think your dad won't dig the pig print? That’s okay! There are other classic options from Collard Greens like a navy plaid print. (Don’t forget to grab that pimento cheese sammie while you shop.)
If the dad in your life is hard to shop for, then tickets for the Beltline Brew Tour is a great option! You drink, they drive. There are three tour options—two in Raleigh and one in Durham. All three tours end where there is food available, so stick around after the tour ends to enjoy local food trucks or restaurants!
If you can't commit to a specific date, opt for a gift card. If you want the whole tour to yourself, there is an option to set up a private event.
If your dad is anything like mine, he has that one pair of pants that are just a tad bit too worn. It’s time to upgrade him to a nice pair of jeans that he can dress up or down. Raleigh Denim Workshop features some of the highest quality jeans around, and they're made right here in the Triangle. They now have summer pant options too! RDW teamed up with Haspel to create seersucker pants, which are perfect for the warm temperatures here.
There are so many different brands to choose from at Kannon’s. Conveniently located in Cameron Village, the shop offers everything from Southern Tide to Peter Millar. My pick here is a Peter Millar Seaside Polo. Peter Millar is locally designed and made in Raleigh & Durham, so these polos are named after NC beaches. I picked the Ocracoke Stripe polo for my golf-loving dad. He’ll be able to wear this all summer long, most notably when we head to Ocracoke on our family vacation in July. The Hwy 12 striped polos and solid polos are great choices for any golfin’, beach clubbin’ or casual Friday dads in your life.
This Old Fashioned cocktail kit is perfect for the dad that is always traveling, but also for the one who just really likes a good Old Fashioned. I like the sleek look of the case, but what’s even better is there is enough for two cocktails in the container. The syrup is also craft, not bottled, which is even better! Dad not an Old Fashioned drinker? That’s okay. There are also Bloody Mary, Gin & Tonic and Moscow Mule options (conveniently packaged in a copper case)!
Is your dad a history lover? Is he a North Carolina native? Take him on a tour of the Mordecai Historic Park. The tour is about an hour and takes you through President Andrew Johnson’s birthplace, the Allen Kitchen, the Badger-Iredell Law Offices, St. Mark’s Chapel and the Mordecai House. The Visitor Center offers great Raleigh and North Carolina themed gift options, too. Make an afternoon of it and take the Raleigh Trolley Tour that starts and ends at the Mordecai Historic Park. It’s a fun afternoon of site-seeing and learning about Raleigh’s history!
Who wouldn’t want a Yeti cooler? These coolers are the best for concert and football tailgates, beach days or backyard picnics. Your dad all set on coolers? Try one of the Yeti Rambler tumblers! They keep hot drinks hot for 12 hours and cold drinks cold for 24 hours. They’re the perfect gift for any dad, whether they’re hydrating on the road, drinking coffee in the office or just enjoying a cool drink on the screened in porch.
Devolve Moto is a carefully curated collective of motorcycle, art and adventure influenced apparel and accessories from around the world—perfect for the adventurous dad. Not into moto? That's ok! It's also a badass café and bar, making this a great place to take him out for a drink.
For the dad who has it all, Morgan Imports is your savior. This enormous shop in downtown Durham offers everything from gag gifts to clothing to kitchen essentials. One thing is certain, you won't leave empty handed.
If your dad is the epitome of style and good taste, make a stop at Holder Goods. This shop features a meticulously curated array of local goods and vintage items.
Durham Distillery creates signature gin and delicious liqueurs. Take a tour with your pop or visit the establishment to pick up an award-winning local spirit straight from its source.
Tickets to the Durham Bulls are always an awesome gift option. What better way to explore food and beer options from around the Triangle and take in great baseball action than at DBAP? The options are endless—from games with firework finales to games with your favorite furballs, it’s a guaranteed good time. A Durham Bulls game is my option for when my father-in-law visits! He loves a good night out at the ballpark.
If your dad loves BBQ, bring him to Lonerider on June 17 to taste 'cue and vote for your favorite while downing tasty, local craft brews.
The Downtown Durham Food Truck Rodeo is celebrating Father's Day by bringing over 50 food trucks to Durham Central Park. Nothing says quality time like good food and summer vibes!
Oval Park Grill is celebrating Father's Day with an all-you-can-eat Eastern Carolina-style BBQ cookout. Bring out your pop, your kids or your pals for an afternoon of fine 'cue.
Celebrate Father's Day with a delicious brunch at Provenance, made up of chocolate chip pancakes, eggs benedict, brunch burgers and more!
Kimbap doesn't usually do brunch, so you should hop on this rare opportunity! Indulge in a limited edition menu of delicious treats from 11a–3p. (Psst—makes a perfect last-minute Father's Day plan!)
