Jubala Village Coffee

Jubala is a must visit for any serious coffee nerd. Known for their excellent pour over coffees and meticulously crafted espresso drinks the baristas at Jubala are focused on delivering a quality coffee experience. The shop gets their beans from Counter Culture Coffee, located right down the road in Durham, and have direct trade relationships with farmers around the world. With the original shop in North Raleigh’s Lafayette Village and a second location on Hillsborough Street adjacent to NC State campus, a great cup of coffee and Jubala’s famous Liège-style waffles and scrumptious biscuits are never too far away. Make sure to stop by at the end of the week for Free Espresso Friday!

This fun shop tucked away in Raleigh’s Seaboard Station has plenty of seating and is a great place to meet with friends or hold a work meeting over coffee.Their beans are supplied by local roaster Raleigh Coffee Company and they also feature a monthly rotating guest roaster. Brew has a full lineup of coffee and espresso drinks as well as bagels, yogurt, and sandwiches with many ingredients sourced from local vendors. One of the highlights of the coffee menu is the great house made cold-brewed coffee that is served from a tap using a nitrogen draft system. They are the only shop in downtown Raleigh offering beans from Carrboro Coffee and they also feature guest roasters like Raleigh’s own Pine State Coffee. Drinks are on point here. Make sure you try the Vietnamese iced coffee. A sweet treat for any coffee fan that is as beautiful as it is delicious. Featuring the world’s largest coffee bean mosaic Benelux offers a spacious coffee shop to escape the hustle and bustle of Cameron Village. The vibe of the shop is social and cozy. There’s plenty of indoor and outdoor seating in this pet friendly establishment. Crash on one of the overstuffed couches or park yourself on a bench along the wall and do some people watching as you sip your drink and plan your day. They roast all of their own coffee in house at Benelux and bottle up some amazing cold brew which they also serve on tap. There are also some tasty food offerings on the menu including their popular Belgian waffles topped with fresh fruit and real maple syrup.

Sir Walter Coffee is one of the new kids on the block and they are already leaving their mark on the Raleigh coffee scene. They are one of the few places in Raleigh where you can find beans roasted by Joe Van Gogh coffee. They also have a full bar serving a wide assortment of beer, wine and cocktails for the evening crowd. If you stop by in the evening give one of their special coffee cocktails a try to give your coffee an added kick! They also have an ever expanding food menu that currently features waffles and biscuits. The space has a modern industrial design and offers multiple seating options including booths, tables, and counter seating making it a great spot to hang. A fun feature of this shop is their “pay-it-forward” board where you can surprise a friend or even a stranger by paying for their coffee in advance.

This cozy but modern coffee shop located just off Moore Square is the flagship coffee shop for Larry’s Coffee which has its beanery right here in Raleigh. It is also the only shop in Raleigh featuring the futuristic “Modbar” setup where all of the espresso machinery is located below the counter so all the customer sees is the pretty chrome wands extending from the countertop where the espresso is dispensed. They recently added some additional seating along the windows making it a great place for people watching while you cradle a mug of hot coffee or tea. They are big on coffee innovation and education here. Look for fun drink offerings on tap like their special nitro brew and weekly free coffee cuppings and classes.

The Morning Times

Morning Times has been a staple of downtown Raleigh for years offering excellent coffee and breakfast to the downtown crowd. Their talented baristas can whip up an excellent coffee or espresso drink in no time keeping the line at the busy shop moving. Their food menu is on point with multiple baked goods and offerings like a breakfast burrito and hearty sandwiches complete with house made chips. There are a few seats along the large storefront window at street level and and a plethora of outdoor seating along the sidewalk. This is the shop to hang at if you want to tap into heart and energy of downtown as you sip your coffee. They roast their own beans here and are used to having a morning rush, so they know how to keep the order line moving. The cafe is large with plenty of seating. It is almost always hopping with energy offering plenty of background chatter for those who prefer a little background noise to help them concentrate. Videri is famous for their amazing chocolate but did you know their chocolate factory also has a kicking coffee bar? Serving up Stumptown Coffee and rotating local roasters the Videri Cafe is a hidden gem in downtown. With the smell of chocolate and coffee in the air this is the perfect spot to meet a friend for a sweet treat or to steal a few quiet moments and get some work done. There is a small collection of tables to sit at inside and a wonderful enclosed patio outside to enjoy during the warmer months. Regulars know that Yellow Dog is the perfect spot to spend the morning enjoying a fresh baked scone with their coffee while soaking in the sunshine that comes pouring in through the shops large windows.
