At The Carrack, art is a vehicle for intellectual, cultural and socio-economic growth. This art space enables local artists to perform and exhibit outside of the constraints of traditional gallery models through a zero commission system. That means that artists can show here for free and keep 100 percent of the money they make—now isn't that awesome? Artists and the community benefit from a more direct and honest experience with creative work that isn't pressured by commercial influences. Thus, this isn't a commercial art space, and you'll be proud to visit here and maybe buy a piece of art! Since The Carrack gives artists complete creative freedom, enjoy the exhibits with an open and inquisitive mind.
Laura Ritchie and John Wendelbo founded the Carrack in 2011, and they've hosted a new exhibit every two week since their opening that year. The name "The Carrack" references a crucial ship design from the 15th century that allowed the European explorers to journey across the high seas and discover a whole new world. Similarly, this gallery helps artists and audiences explore the cultural and societal frameworks that our lives are predicated on.
