Try Huevos Diablos & Spanish Tapas at Mateo
Today, 5:00p - 9:30p
Mateo Bar de Tapas has a dish to fit every wish. With Spanish style tapas, sometimes with a Southern twist, we always leave happy.
Mateo Bar de Tapas is owned by Matthew Kelly, the former chef of another local favorite, Vin Rouge. Mateo definitely feels Spanish when you walk in, but it still fits well in Durham with Southern influences that mingle with its European roots. The bar is timelessly classic—be sure to check out the flights of sherry and incredible Spanish wine list. As a tapas restaurant, Mateo serves thoughtful small plates that pair fantastically with the vintage feel of the old Book Exchange building. Expect a casual, refined experience that you'll crave again and again.
Mateo has a ton of great dishes, including Patatas Bravas and Chicharrones, but we go wild for the Huevo Diablo. This dish is a delicacy that meat lovers should try—it's not light, but it is certainly delicious. The Huevo Diablo is a Spanish-style deviled egg wrapped with a chorizo lining. Grab this plate and few others to complete your meal, and don't forget—no Spanish meal is complete without a tasty glass of wine to match!
