Inspired by Martin Luther's historic story and The Black Cloister, Black Abbey Brewing brings Belgian-style brews to Nashville.
Not many breweries have an inspiration story as rich as Black Abbey Brewing's. Martin Luther, instigator of the Protestant Reformation (remember him from 6th grade World History?) married Katherine von Bora, a nun and brewer, and then the newly weds moved into The Black Cloister where Katherine began brewing what was soon regarded as the best beer in Wittenberg (a big deal!). The owners and brewers have mad respect for Luther and his wifey, so they settled on the name The Black Abbey Brewing Company, a place where the ales are creative, accessible and unique through brewing traditions with over 600 years of practice.
Most of their beers are Belgian style, but they've been known to branch out! Try one of their year rounds like The Rose, an easy drinking Belgian blonde, or go bolder with the POTUS 44, a rich porter made with Frothy Monkey coffee. Beers can be enjoyed in the Fellowship Hall (they really can't quit with these Luther references) and taken to go and tours are available on Saturdays.
