With a 35-year history in the biz, the owners of this Belmont/Hillsboro establishment know a thing or two about bagels—as the restaurant name suggests. Inside the renovated building, you'll find a modern black and white interior that shines thanks to the abundance of natural light streaming in from several floor-to-ceiling windows. But, while the tile is gorgeous, the display cases that are filled with salads, smoked meats and bagels are the real show stoppers. (Yep, we're drooling just thinking about it!)
Glancing at the Proper Bagel menu, it's tempting to go with what you know—a bagel with a schmear. And that's a fine choice because there are dozens of flavors combos, but this joint has so much more to offer! Try the Nova (Nova Lox, red onion, capers, charred tomato and scallion dill cream cheese) made with fresh sliced smoked salmon that's flown in from Brooklyn on the reg. For breakfast, how about an egg sammie topped with fresh ricotta, rosemary and chives? Or for something light, go for one of their tartines like avocado toast with arugula, seared tomatoes, pickled radishes and an optional fried egg. Bonus: If you're a caffeine hound, they've partnered with Barista Parlor to offer fresh coffee.
