Summer Jams in the Duke Gardens: Skylar Gudasz
Durham-based singer-songwriter Skylar Gudasz became known for her utterly unique voice, showcased last year in Ari Picker's Lion and the Lamb at Duke Performances. But everything changed this February when she released Oleander, "her astonishingly great debut album" (News and Observer). Produced by local musical godfather Chris Stamey, the album reveals Gudasz as an essential American artist in the tradition of Joni Mitchell and Aimee Mann. Delivering her wry, off-kilter lyrics in her unmistakably smoky croon, Skylar Gudasz is a local star poised to make a national name.
Duke Gardens' summer outdoor music series are back! The shows take place in the lawn behind the Visitor's Center—we highly encourage bringing lawn chairs, picnics and blankets! But if you're in a pinch and don't have time to shop, they've got you covered—food and beverages, including beer and wine, will be available for purchase during the performances. The lawn will open 30 minutes prior to the start of show so you can find the best patch of grass to, and parking is free after 5p.
