Summer Jams in the Duke Gardens: No BS! Brass Band
The No BS! Brass Band draws from all over the American brass tradition. One minute, they sound like a New Orleans second line, the next like Mingus-style free jazz, the next like James Brown's legendary horn section. "Every note explodes with color, and they fall together into decadent, irresistible energy," wrote Indy Week of the band's raucous performances. Its top-flight members have also played with Fight the Big Bull and Bon Iver, but as No BS! Brass, they are one of most dynamic and unexpected bands to come out of the thriving Richmond music scene.
Duke Gardens' summer outdoor music series are back! The shows take place in the lawn behind the Visitor's Center—we highly encourage bringing lawn chairs, picnics and blankets! But if you're in a pinch and don't have time to shop, they've got you covered—food and beverages, including beer and wine, will be available for purchase during the performances. The lawn will open 30 minutes prior to the start of show so you can find the best patch of grass to, and parking is free after 5p.
