Summer Jams in the Duke Gardens: Mount Moriah
Local country-rockers Mount Moriah recently celebrated their second Merge Records release, the righteous and defiant How to Dance. Pitchfork wrote of the album that frontwoman Heather McEntire "bends your ear in her animated twang, as expressive as Dolly Parton's but as observant as Patterson Hood's." Mount Moriah is a quintessential North Carolina band, dotting their songs with the names of their native state's out-of-the-way places. Blending heavy rock guitars with soaring country vocals, their music tells personal stories of a spiritual journey through the changing South.
Duke Gardens' summer outdoor music series are back! The shows take place in the lawn behind the Visitor's Center—we highly encourage bringing lawn chairs, picnics and blankets! But if you're in a pinch and don't have time to shop, they've got you covered—food and beverages, including beer and wine, will be available for purchase during the performances. The lawn will open 30 minutes prior to the start of show so you can find the best patch of grass to, and parking is free after 5p.
