In 1995, Robert Poitras opened Carolina Brewery's doors on Franklin Street. A third generation UNC alumnus raised in eastern North Carolina, Poitras' interest in craft beer began while still in college when he traveled to Europe and became ensconced in the classic beer culture of our distant overseas relative. With the fifth oldest brewery in North Carolina, we have Robert to thank for helping us fall in love with great local beer rather than Budweiser. We really dig a solid IPA, and Carolina Brewery delivers with the Flagship IPA (ABV: 5.9%, IBU'S: 87). It has a solid floral aroma and a "that-hit-the-spot" hoppy tingle. Prefer a lighter, Kölsch style brew? Grab a pint of the Sky Blue Golden Ale (ABV: 5%, IBU'S: 15)—it's a great "I've been workin' way too hard today, I need a beer that's going to cure me of my career ailments" drink.
