Duke Gardens is recognized as one of the premier public gardens in the United States, renowned both for landscape design and the quality of horticulture, each year attracting more than 300,000 visitors from all over the world. Translated: these gardens are stunning. From Japanese-inspired sections to lush floral terraces, towering trees and wide, green fields, Duke Gardens a must-see. Trust us, you'll come back for more! The gardens are best experienced on a sunny with a picnic blanket and good book (or a nature-enthusiast date).
"Gardens hours: The grounds are open 365 days a year, 8 a.m. to dusk [except the holidays mentioned below].
Doris Duke Center hours: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Winter hours: The Doris Duke Center closes at 5 p.m. daily from the Wednesday before Thanksgiving each year through March 1 of the following year.
Admission: It is free to explore Duke Gardens. But there is a fee for parking.
Parking: Duke University Parking & Transportation charges $2 per hour for parking at Duke Gardens, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week. To pay for parking, you can use the mobile phone app Pay by Phone (we are location 3109), or look for machines in each of the two parking lots. The machines require you to enter your license plate number. You will have an option to print a receipt, but you do not need to place the receipt on your dashboard. The machines will accept cash as well as credit cards, but they do not provide change. If a machine is malfunctioning, please go to the information desk inside the Doris Duke Center. If the center is closed, please contact Duke University Parking & Transportation.
Weekend overflow parking: Due to overwhelming attendance, Duke University now offers a free parking option for Gardens visitors in a nearby overflow lot, the Duke University H Lot at the corner of Yearby Avenue & Anderson Street. The lot is a 5-minute walk from Duke Gardens. It will be open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays & holidays. Please see this map for location. Please note that the weekend overflow parking in the Campus Drive lot adjacent to Duke Gardens is not free.
