Explore graves that haven't been touched for over 200 years at Raleigh's City Cemetery!

Created in 1789, the City Cemetery contains some of Raleigh's founding history. Raleighites from the Revolutionary War, the Civil War and even World War II are buried here. There's even a who's who of influential Raleighites that helped establish the city as North Carolina's capital. The walking tour, provided by the Raleigh City Cemeteries Presevervation Inc., is the best way to explore the area's charm. You'll walk around on cobblestone carriageways and through old wrought iron fencing. Read as many names as you can and you'll recognize many Raleigh street names, school names and other institutions that were started by the families buried here.
