The masterminds behind Picnic, Durham's newest BBQ joint, are Chef Ben Adams, formerly of Piedmont, Wyatt Dickson of Pig Whistle Whole Hog BBQ and farmer Ryan Butler of Green Pig Farm. While delicious pulled pork and other meaty delights aren't new to Bull City's palate, Picnic is bringing something kinda new to table. Their whole hog barbecue menu will be served tapas-style, so you can expect smaller, shareable plates and a wide variety of full-bodied flavors. Don't worry—the cole slaw, banana pudding, hush puppies and other southern staples are still available, but you'll also find fried oysters, steak, a homemade BBQ sauce that merges vinegar andtomato and many other concoction. Just think of it as adding a lil pizazz to the BBQ status quo, but keeping all the same, great flavor. The casual, communal dining space and friendly service are sure to lure you in, so be ready to pig out!
