Belmont Mansion was built in 1853 by Adelicia and Joseph Acklen as an escape from the family's Louisiana plantations.
By Kelly Thomas
Adelicia and Joseph Acklen were once among Nashville's richest citizens and built Belmont Mansion as an Italian Villa house in 1853. The home and grounds were occupied by 4th Corps of the Union Army before the Battle of Nashville in December of 1864 and later became an all-girls college and seminary.
There are multiple tour options to explore the majestic mansion. The Standard Tour is $15 per adult and will take you through the home steeped in history, with the tour lasting about an hour. There is also a Gardens and Grounds Tour that costs $20 per adult and includes gardening experts discussing the vibrant gardens and extensive collection of cast iron statuary and gazebos surrounding Belmont Mansion. If you are an art aficionado, opt for the $23 Art Tour that focuses on Adelicia's impressive art collection.
