"On September 20th, in conjunction with Durham’s Third Friday, we’re introducing the first North Carolina artist to be featured at Kingfisher!
Please stop by to meet artist Leah Smith from 6-9pm & view her work! We hope you’ll stay for a cocktail & bite as well.
Leah Smith is a North Carolina artist based in Mebane whose work seeks to illuminate the relationship between people and the natural environment through a tactile and kinesthetic conversation with culturally elemental materials, oftentimes in iterative, labor-intensive processes that mirror natural creation in their simplicity and cyclicality.
Her sculptural installation for the Kingfisher gallery was created on-site from cotton string and yellow pine, considering the process of weaving as an embrace and celebration of the incremental change and mundane cycles that create the form of a life.
Find more of her work at leahsmithstudio.com and on Instagram @leahsmithstudio.
Kingfisher’s gallery space will present a new site-specific art installation every six months, with opening and closing receptions in conjunction with Durham’s Third Friday evenings. Follow us to learn about our next call for artist submissions!"
