Journey West, Discover Saxapahaw
Half an hour westward can uncover a treasure trove of historical richness, untouched natural glory, and modern marvels. There's so much to do, it's a wonder we could fit it all into one experience.
If somebody asked you about a community nearby that received accolades from The New York Times and The Washington Post for its food, music, and blend of rural and urban, would you know the best answer? We do, though we might have trouble pronouncing it.
Saxapahaw, just west of Chapel Hill, is inventing the idea of "rural renaissance done right" by transforming former mill buildings along the scenic Haw River. There's so much to explore—canoeing, kayaking, dancing in the award winning Haw River Ballroom, watching the PaperHand Puppet Intervention, sipping on some wine at the Benjamin Vineyards and Winery, catching the summer farmer's market and music series… Wow. If that's not enough for you, you'll have to look at their map
to see it all!
If you're ready to take the journey, set your sights to Saxapahaw, and show us your favorite site of Saxapahaw!
