Hear Civil War Stories at Carnton Plantation
Today, 9:00a - 5:00p
Carnton Plantation was at the center of the Civil War's Battle of Franklin, and visitors can learn about its history through numerous tours.
Carnton was built in 1826 by former Nashville mayor Randal McGavock. However, its legacy is ultimately tied to the Battle of Franklin on November 30, 1864, for it served as the largest field hospital in the area for hundreds of wounded and dying Confederate soldiers. Visitors of the Plantation can hear more about its history on any number of tours. The 60-minute Classic House Tour is offered daily for $18 and includes a guided tour inside the home, as well as access to the grounds, outbuildings, family cemetery and garden. If you are a history buff, there's also the 90-minute Behind the Scenes Tour that provides a glimpse into areas of the home not seen on the Classic, or you can opt for the 90-minute Extended Tour of the house and grounds.
