A little backstory will shed some light on why this little shop is so great: over 20 years ago, owner Robbie Roberts helped open the original Cup a Joe on Hillsborough Street in Raleigh. Roberts eventually sold his stake in the Raleigh Cup a Joe and branched off to opened up other coffee shops across the state. During the late 1990s Roberts honed his roasting skills to the point where he could imagine a coffee profile and then actually produce it. That was a pivotal moment for Roberts as a budding artisanal roster. Today Robert's roasting operation is in a building separate from his coffee shops, and demand for his high-quality beans is rising.
