Get Outside for Open Streets 704
Charlotteans will flood the streets to experience what life is like when a main street is car free. Come out to experience Charlotte in a new way, plus engage in arts, green and fitness fun!
"Open Streets 704 is a series of four Charlotte events made possible by a grant from the Knight Foundation. Open Streets 704 will literally open a length of city streets for an afternoon just for people! Taking cues from similar events around the country and the world, Open Streets 704 aims to build a better, healthier, connected community by encouraging Charlotte and Mecklenburg area residents to walk, bicycle, and experience the city together in a way that's just not possible in a car."
Mark your calendars! On Sunday, October 15th, the streets will open back up again for another Open Streets 704 event! This is the fourth in a series of four Open Streets events launched by a two-year grant from the Knight Foundation.
The October 15th route will feature a roughly 5.5 mile loop that connects Madison Park, Selwyn Park, Montford Park, Freedom Park, Myers Park, Ashbrook, LoSo, and Colonial Village neighborhoods.
Arts and Science: Opportunities abound to explore your creative side. Musical performances, artist demonstrations, interactive maker spaces, and dance ensembles of all ages will engage with Open Street 704.
Family Zone: Fun for the whole family! From bean bag toss to a pop-up dog park – be prepared to get active. Activities will include street soccer, bicycling demonstrations, pet crafts, life-size Jenga, and more!
Green Zone: Be prepared to learn about nature, plant trees in the community, lend a helping hand in the garden, and talk about the wildlife from local nature centers.
Wellness Zone: Work on a fitter/healthier version of you! Cooking demonstrations, yoga classes, Zumba, and healthy heart initiatives will fill this zone with fun!
