Get a History Lesson at Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park
Today, 6:00a - 10:00p
In this 19-acre park, you'll find a picture-perfect view of the State Capitol and an opportunity to dive into Tennessee's state history.
This park was established to commemorate the Volunteer State's Bicentennial Celebration on June 1, 1996. Today, you'll find visitors strolling along the "Pathway of History" stopping to read a bullet point about Tennessee's storied past. Conveniently located near the city center, next to the Farmers' Market, the manicured lawn is the perfect spot for a picnic lunch (if the Grilled Cheeserie Food Truck
is parked outside—you best stop!). Visit at the top of the hour and you'll be welcomed by a ringing 95-Bell Carillon. With the exception of the hourly bell ritual this park is pretty darn peaceful, so if you come late in the evening you may want to bring a friend ('cause there ain't many patrons in the park and there could be a shady character here and there).
