Where one door closes, another one opens. Mattie Beason (of the former Six Plates Wine Bar) and John Eisensmith have created a new concept in the Bull City, a cider-focused restaurant featuring the largest variety of cider in the Southeast featuring over 80 ciders available on draft or bottled. Named after an old southern cider apple, Black Twig will also feature a Txotx (pronounced "choach"), a Spanish cider barrel where patrons can sample 2-4 ounce pours, in addition to a wide variety of good grub. While most of the menu revolves around sausage sandwiches (sourced from Firsthand Foods with Guglhupf buns and house-made toppings), you'll also find light bar fare like pretzel knots and truffle frites and crowd pleasers like Parlour ice cream sammies and cheese plates. And just in case you needed a guarantee of goodness, Beason is one of just eight cider instructors for the US Association of Cider Makers. That's right, we've got an expert in the house. So grab a cold cider and cheers to a brand new Durham venture!
