Elect to Drink the Modern President at Garland
Today, Closed Today
Sip on the Modern President and share small plates at Garland's bar with the constituents of Classy Town.
The recently opened Garland has become the centerpiece of the three story building that houses Kings and Neptune's. Featuring what I would call Southwestern Asian street food, Garland also has one of the best and most interesting cocktail menus in town.
Sip on the Modern President, which includes toasted coconut-infused rum, white vermouth, cinnamon bark and orange bitters. The toasted coconut-infused rum plays well against the cinnamon bark syrup and vermouth to hit all the different parts of the taste buds. The coconut flavor is not overbearing like drinking something like Malibu Rum but more of a hint that makes you long for the South Pacific.
I recommend sitting at the bar for the full experience and a helpful bar staff that can walk you through each cocktail. I would also grab a few small plates to snack on and pair with your cocktails as they were designed to play off the of the ingredients from each other.
What used to be just a walk up window has been transformed into one of DT Raleigh's most stylish and creative dining experiences. Although Garland is a small space, you don't need to worry about missing it from the outside; the entry way is decked out in disco ball style mosaics. Venturing inside, you'll continue to find bold and stylish decor, with dark walls, and a back wall covered in bright pictures and prints. As for seating, you'll find a row of booths to the left, a long communal table in the middle and a large bar on the right. Now let's get to the good stuff, the flavors. The menu is focused around refined global home cuisine (inspired by the chef's childhood in India and Brooklyn) and changes with the season. Garland extends their interesting and exciting flavors to the cocktail menu as well, with liquors such as jasmine infused gin and toasted-coconut infused rum.
Garland is also open for lunch on Wed/Thurs/Fri 11:30 AM – 2:00 PM and Saturdays from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
