Dare to dip into the quarry and take a swim. This legendary spot attracts adventurers and daredevils for its secluded location and 40ft cliff.

The Eno River Rock Quarry is a spring and summertime staple for the more adventurous types. Though somewhat close to downtown for a nature spot, the quarry still feels oddly distant from the commotion of the city. When the 80-degree days start rolling in, it's time for a day-trip. The four-acre pond has a long history, excavated in the 1960s courtesy of I-85 construction. Since then, the quarry has been both a source of joy and controversy. To reach it, follow the gravel trail at the end of Howe St., which is pretty clearly marked from there on. The mile or so hike through the muggy forest will bring up your heart rate, and the deep cool waters will cool you off (though, we must say this, swimming is officially not allowed, so use your judgment). Along the tallest cliffs, located on the wrap-around trail, is a popular jumping spot for daredevils. Again, be safe! But take pics, of course.
