Dine Out and Support the Homeless at The Cookery
Today, 8:30a - 8:30p
The Cookery is serving up simple and delicious food with a purpose! The restaurant schools homeless individuals in the art of cooking, allowing them to move on to bigger and better things.
Brett Swayn and Terry Kemper are two people on a mission. They're the brains behind Lambscroft Ministries, a program to help Nashville's homeless. The Ministry has several facets, one of which is The Cookery. At their location between 12 South and The Gulch, you'll find men and women trying to get back on their feet who are eager to sharpen their culinary skills. And boy are they good!
The restaurant has a serious fan club that enjoys stopping in for breakfast, lunch, dinner or just to grab a cup of coffee. 'Cause it is a casual place, you'll seat yourself at a table inside or out on the patio. As far as what to order, try the Aussie Style Meat Pie (tender braised choice steak stewed in mild Thyme gravy served in short crust pastry), something lighter like the Tiger Shrimp Tacos (Cajun-seared Black Tiger Shrimp, fresh black bean and mango salsa, diced Roma tomatoes and shredded lettuce with cilantro-lime cream sauce) or make a reservation
for their Friday Steak Night (starter salad, steak, sides and a dessert). Bonus: all revenue from the restaurant benefits Lambscroft Ministries.
