Creep on the Capitol to Find a Presidential Tomb
Today, Closed Today
Polk your head around the grounds at the Tennessee State Capitol and you'll find the memorial site of a United States President.
Trivia tidbit: The 11th President of the United States, James K. Polk, was also the Governor of Tennessee from 1845 to 1849. But you won't find his remains in a storied graveyard or a massive mausoleum. He's laid to rest on a prominent hill, next to wife Rebecca, overlooking all of Nashville and still keeping a watchful eye on his constituents ('cause that's not creepy). On the scenic grounds of the State Capitol, you'll find a beautiful monument and his tomb, right next to a statue of President Andrew Jackson. Jackson was a mentor to Polk in his early political career.
