Celebrate MLK at The Durham
Remember the life of Dr. King with a series of video works honoring his legacy at the mezzanine of The Durham Hotel.
Come to The Durham Hotel for a free, family-friendly event honoring the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on MLK Day. The Citizen, a mobile exhibition platform for artists engaged with the social and political concerns, will screen video works that engage Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy in the mezzanine screening room (2nd floor). The Cause Collective's Along the Way (2007) is a mosaic made up of over 1500 videos that evokes the diversity and myriad experiences that build a vibrant community. In Hank Willis Thomas's recent project, A person is more important than anything else (2015) celebrates the work of groundbreaking writer and activist James Baldwin, weaving audio, images and video "in a fluid-moving, digital stream of consciousness that connects Baldwin's 20th century discourse with the concerns and urgencies of the 21st."
Snacks, cookies and soft drinks will be provided and the event is open and free to all.
