Catch a Show at Cat's Cradle: Steve Forbert Trio
As a young man from Meridian, Mississippi, Steve Forbert traveled to New York City and played guitar for spare change in Grand Central Station. He vaulted to international prominence with a folk-rock hit, "Romeo's Tune," during a time when rootsy rock was fading out and the Ramones, Talking Heads and other New Wave and punk acts were moving in to the public consciousness. Still, critics raved about Steve's poetic lyrics and engaging melodies, and the crowds at CBGB's club in New York accepted him alongside those acts.
Artists of all genres, from Nirvana and Iggy Pop to John Mayer and Trampled By Turtles, have taken this stage. If that doesn't have you amped up, don't worry, they squeeze in plenty of local artists and have become the go-to spot for album release parties in the area.
The standing-room only venue has an intimate and grungy vibe that allows you to see acts that usually take the bigger stages in a smaller setting. Grab a PBR at the bar in the back and get ready to groove. The bar is cash only, so if you're planning to imbibe come prepared—and while you're at it buy an iconic t shirt!
