Reed Art Gallery - 318 Blackwell Street, Durham

"This exhibition includes contemporary artworks by local, female artists whose materials can be traced to Durham’s historical relationship with textile and craft. Artworks presented in Ancestry of Necessity use these materials and methods to produce works of art unbound by function with concentration on concept, form, and color. Artists include Maria Britton, Martha Clippinger, Julia Gartrell, and Celia Gray. The exhibition also includes works from the American Tobacco Collection."
