Take a little jaunt out to Fair Game Beverage Company in Pittsboro to do some tasting and touring at Chatham County's finest winery and distillery. Nowadays, when people think of a distillery they think of vodka and whiskey. Fair Game wanted to mix it up and produce beverages with a little more character. They're on a mission to produce handcrafted fortified wines and spirits that reflect the agricultural abundance of the Piedmont using the old handcrafted methods of Portugal, Italy and Cognac, France. So a trip to Fair Game isn't just a drinking excursion, it's a cultural education. Come out Wednesday–Friday 5–8pm, Saturday and Sunday 1–5pm or for a tour Thursday 6pm or Sunday 1:30pm (call or email to reserve your space). Tours are $10 and include a tasting and souvenir glass. Tastings available for $5 and include a souvenir glass. They currently offer fortified wines. For those who aren't familiar, it's wine mixed with brandy, which sounds intense, but is actually completely drinkable and pretty delightful. Spirits will be offered when they're finished aging—remember, all good things take time—which is predicted to be around March 2015.
