A Nashville Tradition: Go Ga-Ga for Goo Goo
Today, Closed Today
This glob of candy is a Nashville original with a reputation for creating addictions. Grab a bite and check out the brand new shop—you'll never want to leave.
You can't really say you've lived Nashville life until you've chomped down a Goo Goo Cluster. "But what about the city, the art, the country music?" No, really. It's all about the Goo Goo.
This small but not-so-bite-sized bundle of yum is a nougat made up of milk chocolate, caramel, peanuts and marshmallow. The original recipe, which now dictates the ingredients of the aptly named "Original", was invented in 1912—you know something's a home run if it's been loved for over 100 years! Time has been good to Goo Goo and now you can indulge in some equally popular alternatives—the Peanut Butter (consisting of peanut butter, peanuts and milk chocolate), and the Supreme (like the Original, but swap the peanuts for pecans).
Though you can find these goodies across the US in select stores (praise!), a trip to the actual Goo Goo shop in downtown Nashville is really worth it. A+ to whomever designed the space—the interior looks like the candy, decked out in all its packaging colors. You can also find a ton of Goo Goo memorabilia, like post cards, key chains, posters and more. Props to the even crazier inventions they've been cranking out. We tried something called the Campfire Cowboy, inspired by s'mores and made with bourbon-flavored marshmallows. It was nothing short of divine. If you head to the back of the shop you can sample new creations and watch the craftsmen assemble and bake the beauties—you'll seriously never want to leave!
